Do you really know how to win at online poker?

Now as we all know from our previous encounters at the poker tables, that not all incidents mean the same thing. What does that tell you? It tells you that you must dicipher between these incidents and rationalize what is what. Here are a few "KEY" tips to aid you in becoming a better online player.

Table Positoin and Starting Hands

This is a common rule and one that should be adhered to if one is to become a successful online poker player. This is due to the fact that most online players are involved in way to many pots and see way too many flops, mainly with marginal to weak starting hands. It is ok to play marginal hands in late position when there has been no action in front of you. The way to beat these super-loose online players is to just tighten up and wait for the right cards at the right time so you can take full advantage of their chips.

Dont Be Too Loose Yourself

Again, this goes back to tightening up your play against these super-loose online players. In the long-run you, as a tighter more disciplined player, will be more successful and take down more pots. These loose players try to see way too many hands, maybe because of the low limits, maybe because of the action. Whatever the reason, tighten up your play and take down those pots.

Know What The Flop Is Telling You

Since online poker rooms are much faster than your traditional brick and mortar rooms, it is a must to be able to scan the flop and know what is the "NUTS" or the best possible hand is. Are there any straight or flush draws possible? What positions may have hit that flop? Or better yet, what positions missed that flop all together? It would be wise to sit back and watch the table your about to join and pick up on betting patterns and potential action.

Speed

It does not take a brain surgeon to know that online poker games play much faster. So you need to adapt to the game you are entering. We all know that you only have a certain amount of time to "Act" on your hand, (usually between 15-30 sec) and remember that on most sites you can request more time if you need it.

Keeping Tabs

This is a very important tool in online poker play. You can keep notes on players you have or are playing against and review them when needed. This comes in handy when you are up against a certain player over and over again. What did he/she have the last time they did that? If you added notes on showdown hands from a particular player then you will know! Or how about a player that tends to go on tilt every time they loose a big hand? Perfect, make a note of the following hand he/she plays. This is very powerfull and you can gain a ton of information on players.

Tells

Just like in a live setting, pick up on those tells. There is a big mis conception that you can not pick up "tells" when playing online poker....ya right. Say you flop top pair in first position. You check and the rest of your table checks very rapidly behind you. This is because they are using the auto-check button. Normally this is a sign of weekness  Also, when a player takes a fair amount of time before bringing his hand in for a raise, be sure to keep track of that hand at the showdown, so next time you have a better idea of what he might be holding when he pauses before coming in for a raise.

Start Small

There are many reasons for this tip, but none bigger than for you to gain confidence. You can play in these low buy in tournaments and receive a pretty decent pay off if you can get to the end. Plus you gain allot of experience for a little cash.

Mind Set

A big part of playing winning poker, is the sure fact of where your head is at. You should NEVER play poker to escap from other real life problems you are facing. You are not in the mind set to anchor down and play like a winner. You need to be on top of your game at all times if you want to win.

Be Smart

This is numero uno folks!!! Do not deposit money in an online poker account, that you can not afford to loose. This plays back on your mind set. If you know your at the point that you just have to win, more times than not your going to lose. We all get into the mind set of chasing our loses, this is the worst thing you can do. Be smart and adhere to a bankroll guide line that fits your budget.

I hope these tips are helpfull to you regaurdless if your a new player or a player that has been around for a while. And remeber to visit Northwestgambling.com for the LIVE poker room near you!!!

Happy gaming and be smart everyone.

Eliminate or not?

There is a great big mis conception out there in the poker world when it comes to eliminating players in a Tournament setting. This blurb spells out the must knows on how to win a tournament.

When playing a tournament there are times when eliminating a player becomes so important you should check down almost any hand to the river. The two most common times this would happen is when you are one out of the money, or when you are three handed. (Typically second gets paid double what third gets so any pot equity is less important than that large jump in real money.)

Eliminating players in a tournament is important. To win, everyone else must be eliminated. But it is not the most important consideration, and at some times it is an utterly trivial one. Your tournament actions should be dictated by one consistent goal -- maximizing your financial expectation. Sometimes this even means not trying to eliminate players (like when a tournament is one or two players out of the money and you have a big stack and are able to steal the blinds virtually every hand... the longer this situation sustains itself, the better for you.)

Surprisingly, most people play without positive expectation being their primary motivator, and that is great for those playing to win. The challenge of a poker tournament is to always play in whatever way is in your best financial interest. That's it. Often this will mean trying to eliminate opponents, while sometimes that consideration is irrelevant. Remember, it's the money that matters and no other person can tell you that it is not!! Northwestgambling.com wishes you luck on your next Tournament after reading this blog.

Gold Club Casinos in Washington

Nevada Gold & Casinos, Inc. (NYSE Amex:UWN) announced on May 24, 2010 that the bankruptcy court bidding process for the acquisition of up to seven mini-casinos in Washington was completed on May 21st. No other qualified bidders filed proposals with the Court.

"We are very pleased that the bidding process is complete and we are looking forward to the sale hearing. We are currently in the process of acquiring the gaming and liquor board licenses for these properties and hope to close the deal on most of the casinos within 30-60 days," said Robert Sturges, CEO of Nevada Gold.

"We expect that we will be acquiring these mini-casinos at an effective EBITDA multiple of between three and four times and believe that we will be able to significantly leverage our existing Washington infrastructure to seamlessly integrate these new acquisitions. The recent trends for our existing three mini-casinos in Washington have performed above our expectations for calendar year 2010 to date. We expect to put the know-how and experience we have gained so far in Washington to good use in theoperation of the Evergreen mini-casinos," Mr. Sturges concluded.

The casinos are currently owned by subsidiaries of Evergreen Gaming Corporation ("Evergreen"), a British Columbia corporation, which is under bankruptcy court protection due to a burdensome debt structure. The transaction will be financed by cash on hand as well as a $5.1 million note issued to Evergreen's current senior lender.

The seven casinos are The Silver Dollar Seatac, The Silver Dollar Renton, The Silver Dollar Mill Creek, The Silver Dollar Tukwila, Club Hollywood, located in Shoreline, the Royal Casino located in Everett and The Golden Nugget Casino located in Tukwila. All of the casinos are located in western Washington. Combined, the seven facilities have a total of approximately 100 table games including blackjack, Spanish 21 and other popular banked table games.

Closing of the acquisition is subject to other customary closing conditions, including licensing, necessary lease transfers and final bankruptcy court approval, among other conditions.

South Sound Poker

With so many Casinos closing there doors due to lack of business, what is left to think of the remaining casinos? Is it just a matter of time and they too will fall? Chew on this for a minute. The Palace in Lakewood Wa. saw there numbers decline slightly over this summer period, Macau in Lakewood saw a dramatic decrease in poker play, and Great American and Happy Days Casino's both closed due to lack of business. But there was one Casino that stood out from them all! Freedies Club in Fife reports they broke records in attendance and profit during this summer period. WOW!! What does that say for the rest of the mini casino's in the area? If you ask me, Freedies Club in Fife knows how to build a room and sustain it. Return business is key and they are on to something great! Be prepared for Freedies to gain even more momentum as we head into the fall season.
